Douglas Lynn Plice

Douglas Lynn Plice, 73, of Polk, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at UH Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland. Born September 21, 1949 in Ashland, he was the son of Robert D. and Dorothy B. (Kline) Plice. 

Doug was a 1967 graduate of Ashland High School, a 1971 graduate of Grace College and a 1977 graduate of University of St. Frances in Fort Wayne, IN. He taught 5th and 6th grade in Shelby City Schools, retiring after 37 years of service. Summer employment included driving Greyhound bus and working for Lytle Construction. Post-retirement, Doug tutored young adults to get their GED, and he led a Parkinson’s support group in Ashland. 

Doug was a member of Grace Church in Ashland, and he participated in a men’s Bible study group. He enjoyed participating in mission trips to the Czech Republic, Canada and the Navajo Mission. Doug also found pleasure riding motorcycles and playing Euchre with friends, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his children, Ryan (Emily) Plice, Bethany (Michael) Willi and Ella (Mike) Waggoner; his grandchildren, Riley, Asher, Ryder, Wyatt, Sydney, Charlie, Addison, Ezra and Cora; his sisters, Denise Holloway and Darla Plice; his mother-in-law, Mary Herr; and many other beloved family and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda (Herr) Plice, whom he married April 16, 1983 and missed very much. 

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in Red Haw Cemetery conducted by Pastor Dan Allan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church, 1144 West Main Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
