For more than 40 years, the Rotary July Fourth Fireworks have lit up the Ashland night skies in celebration of our nation’s birth. That holiday tradition will continue Tuesday July 4.
And for this year’s presenting sponsor, Willo’dell Nursery, it also represents another reason to celebrate — the family-owned business’ 100 years of serving the Ashland and Mansfield areas.
The fireworks display, which will be launched from its usual site outside Community Stadium will be provided by a new vendor, Zambelli Fireworks International, which is the nation’s largest fireworks vendor. Both 88.9-WRDL and 101.3-WNCO again will broadcast a patriotic soundtrack during the fireworks display.
“The Rotary Club of Ashland, in cooperation with Mayor Matt Miller and the city, is excited to continue this great family tradition in the Ashland community,” said Mitch Piskur, Rotary fireworks chair. “Thanks to our more than 30 sponsors and donors, our club looks forward to continuing this tradition for many more years.”
The Rotary Club is again holding its “50-50 Super Raffle” to help fund the annual fireworks while building an endowment to assure their long-term future. Tickets are $100 with a maximum of 150 tickets sold. The winning ticket could be worth up to $7,500 if all the tickets are sold.
The raffle drawing will take place during the pre-fireworks show on 88.9-WRDL, starting at 9:15 p.m. Dan Quinn, owner of Willo’dell, will draw the lucky winning ticket. The pre-fireworks show will also be broadcast live on the Rotary Club’s Facebook page, @ashlandohrotary.
Raffle tickets are available from any Rotary Club member online; Armstrong Cable, 1215 Claremont Ave.; the United Way office, 32 W. South St., or email mpiskur1@gmail.com. The deadline for ordering tickets on the Rotary website is 5 p.m. July 4.
