ASHLAND — The Ashland County Fairgrounds will look a little different come fair week in September, thanks to nearly $100,000 in capital improvements made this summer.
The biggest addition, said Cathy Rice, the fair’s secretary, is the new sheep pavilion — a $42,000 project made possible through donors.
Rice said gate houses three and four have also been replaced. Now, all six of the gatehouses surrounding the fairgrounds are color coded, making it easier for guests to remember which they’ve entered, Rice said.
Rice hopes to have a new auxiliary building delivered by the end of the month, and several other buildings around the property have received face lifts — a new roof on the coliseum, a new coat of paint on coliseum seating and new siding on several barns.
The beef barn, in particular, received all new electric and the swine barn received new holding pens.
“We also got a $2,500 grant from UH Samaritan for a 911 phone and first aid items,” she said, adding another grant provided for the purchase of additional security cameras.
Rice said the fairgrounds continue to host events during construction. Below is a schedule of events happening through Dec. 9.
