Ashland County veterans sit on bleachers

ASHLAND — Ashland’s 10th Veterans Appreciation Day kicked off with a recognition of its organizers, a group photo of Ashland County veterans and a barbecue lunch on Saturday.

Sheriff Wayne Risner recognized Jenny Whitmore and Pam Mowry, who have acted as chair and vice chair of the Veterans Appreciation Day events for 10 years. Mowry came up with the idea for the event in 2013.

Events will take place to honor veterans at the Ashland County Airport throughout the day Saturday. The schedule of events included:

  • 11 a.m. – Opening Ceremony
  • 12-12:15 p.m. – Complimentary Cookout
  • 1-1:45 p.m. – Ken Hammontree
  • 2 p.m. – The Rat Pack
  • 4 p.m. – The Stan Davis Quintet
  • 7-9:15 p.m. – The Bottom Line Band
  • 9:15 p.m. – Fireworks

This year, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall came to Ashland as part of Veterans Appreciation Day. An opening ceremony for the wall kicked off the weekend on Thursday night. The wall will stand at the Ashland County Airport until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
