ASHLAND — From Oct. 31 to Nov. 3, 46 members of the Ashland FFA Chapter traveled to Cincinnati, Louisville, and Indianapolis as part of its trip to the 96th National FFA Convention.

At convention, there was a record attendance of 72,954 members, advisors, and guests.

Students learned what it means to be an FFA member and how they can get involved in FFA through the General Sessions, Career Show, and Expo.

In addition to leadership advancement activities, members had some fun by visiting the Louisville Slugger Museum, Cincinnati Zoo, Churchill Downs, the World’s Toughest Rodeo, and the first ever Buckeye Bash in the Barn.

According to a member survey, the World’s Toughest Rodeo was a clear favorite.

One member stated, “I’ve never gone to a rodeo before and I thought it was exciting.

Another said, “The energy was really great at the Rodeo and it was a new experience for me.”

On the final day of the trip, the chapter attended the 4th general session to celebrate as Cathy Bishop walked across the stage to receive her Honorary American Degree.

The Honorary American Degree is the highest honor given to a supporter or friend of the FFA.

The Degree is awarded to, “individuals who have provided exceptional service on a national level to agriculture, agricultural education, or FFA (The National FFA Organization).”

Bishop was one of 213 people from all 50 states to receive the honor this year.

Ashland FFA President Tanner Harpster would like to thank the Ashland FFA Alumni Association and the over 20 sponsors who made the trip possible.

“There was a place for me in FFA and there’s a place for everyone in agriculture,” Harpster said. “I truly believe that FFA gives students the opportunity to accomplish something they never thought was possible to achieve.”
