Jimmy A. Hurt, 84
Jimmy A. Hurt, 84 of Ashland went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, February 15, 2024 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.
He was born in Norman, Oklahoma on November 19, 1939 the son of the late Preston Conway and Nellie Marie.
Jimmy graduated from Sulphur High School, Class of 1958. He went on to further his education at Oklahoma University and East Central University.
For more than 10 years, Jimmy proudly served in the United States National Guard.
He married the love of his life, the former Dianne Dugger on September 5, 1959.
After 21 years, Jimmy retired in 2001 from Abbott Labs previously Faultless Rubber; he was a Manufacturing Manager for Plant 2 and 3.
He attended Grace Church in Ashland. He previously was a member of First Baptist Church where he drove the church bus. Throughout his life, he was an avid golfer and football enthusiast cheering for the Ohio State University, Cleveland Browns, and the Oklahoma Sooners. Along with his wife, Jimmy enjoyed wintering in Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mrs. Dianne Hurt of Ashland; one daughter, Dana (Doug) Shymske of Polk; two grandsons, Trevor (Danielle) Shymske of Ashland and Tyler Preston Shymske of Ashland; and a brother-in-law, Gene Pritchard of Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Josh Wilson presiding. The Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends and family may call two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A meal and time of fellowship will be held following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church, 1144 West Main Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
