ASHLAND — Ashland County commissioners opened 11 bids spanning four projects aimed at roads, a bridge and asphalt material on Thursday.

Ed Meixner, the county’s engineer, said his office has worked and contracted with all the companies that submitted bids on Thursday.

He said he’d have recommendations on who to hire within the week to the commissioners.

The bids were for the county’s pavement marking program, a bridge reconstruction, asphalt paving and the procurement of asphalt material.

Meixner estimated the most expensive project to cost $1.9 million. The money will buy the repaving of 17 miles of county roads. Namely, sections of county roads 281, 620, 655, 1008, 1153, 1353 and 1675 will get new asphalt.

The project yielded the most bids at five.

  • Melway Paving: $1,545,789
  • McB Paving: $1,858,691
  • Kokosing: $1,854,098
  • Shelly & Sands: $1,936,838
  • Sarver Paving: $1,656,483

An underground bridge near the 400 block of West Main Street comes in second in terms of cost. Meixner estimated it at $980,000 and the bid — from Adena — came back at $998,830.

Buying materials for making asphalt will also come near the $1 million mark, Meixner said. Asphalt Materials Inc. delivered a bid under that estimate at around $750,000.

The engineer’s office plans to mark around 280 miles of pavement across the county this summer. That project is estimated to cost $335,000 and received four bids.

  • American Roadway Logistics: $308,390
  • AeroMark Company: $352,559
  • Oglesby Construction Inc.: $334,198
  • JD Striping and Services: $276,184

Thursday’s bids come three weeks after commissioners were forced to reject two that came too high for an addition to the sheriff’s annex.
