JEROMESVILLE — It may be too early to call it a full-blown rivalry, but the postseason paths of statewide heavyweights Hillsdale and Keystone will soon cross again.
The second-seeded Falcons and seventh-seeded Wildcats will meet in a Division III district semifinal game at Wellington’s Rec Park at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The same two teams met in the district championship in Wellington last spring with the Wildcats holding on for a 2-0 win.
The teams met earlier this season at Hillsdale. The Falcons won 7-6.
Hillsdale advanced to this week’s district tournament with a 5-2 win over Fairless in the sectional final. Pitcher Keira Filius scattered six hits and struck out 14. Jordyn Fickes and Kennedy Fickes each had two hits. Mollie Goon scored a pair of runs.
Keystone punched its ticket to the district with a 19-6 win over No. 20 Waterloo.
Also in Division III, Mapleton advanced to this week’s Norwayne district tournament. The fifth-seeded Mounties will take on No. 8 Norwayne at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The Mounties knocked off No. 11 Dalton 5-4 in the sectional championship game. Norwayne held off No. 9 Northwestern 6-5 to advance.
