HEATH – High school’s regional track and field meets might have just kicked off Wednesday night around Ohio, but that didn’t keep the Crestview boys squad from quickly churning out some state qualifications.

After capturing their fourth consecutive Firelands Conference crown a few weeks ago, the Cougars sit atop the Division III leaderboard at Heath High School with 30 points behind a trio of regional titles.

Senior Wade Bolin, who set new FC records this year in both the shot put (60-3.5) and discus (187-4), was an easy winner Wednesday in the discus. His heave of 178-4 was more than 13 feet better than the runner-up.

Crestview sophomore Liam Kuhn also impressed in the pole vault with a first-place clearance of 14-0, as no other vaulter topped 13-8.

Then in the 4×800 relay, the Cougars clocked a regional-winning 8:05.96 with the quartet of Cooper Brockway, Bransen Hider, Everett Smith and Logan Friges.

Pole vaulters Kidney & Carr advance

NORWAYNE – The Ashland area’s big moments were all wrapped up into one event Wednesday at the Division III regional meet at Norwayne High School, where two pole vaulters moved on to Columbus.

Mapleton senior Hayden Kidney cleared a personal-best height of 12-8, locking in a tie for the regional runner-up spot with fellow Ashland County vaulter Braden Carr of Loudonville, a sophomore.
