BOWLING GREEN — Ashland ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday evening at Carter Park.

Perrysburg ace Matt Hubbard fired a complete-game two-hitter as the fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets cruised to an 8-0 win over the seventh-seeded Arrows in a Division I district semifinal game at Carter Park.

A hard-throwing right-hander, Hubbard struck out eight and walked one. He gave up a second-inning single to C.J. Cox and a third-inning single to Tyler Holt.

Perrysburg got to Ashland ace Luke Bryant for four runs in the home half of the second. An error allowed two runs to score and Connor Kessinger drove in a pair with a single to center.

Perrysburg took advantage of another Ashland errors to score two more runs in the third. Brady Zilles knocked in a run with an infield single.

The Yellow Jackets closed it out with two runs in the sixth. Perrysburg benefitted from another Ashland error.

Ashland committed four miscues on the day. Bryant was charged with all eight runs, but only one was earned. He gave up 11 hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Zilles, Hubbard and Abram Hire each had two hits for the Yellow Jackets. 

The Arrows finished the season with an 18-7 record.

Perrysburg will play ninth-seeded Sylvania Southview for the district title at 5 p.m. Friday in Bowling Green. Southview upset top-seeded Oregon Clay 12-8 in Wednesday’s early game.
