JEROMESVILLE — Belle Dalton joined a short list of Hillsdale greats.
A senior catcher, Dalton was an All-Ohio honorable-mention selection in Division III when the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association recently unveiled the all-state teams.
It was the third All-Ohio citation for Dalton, who was a Division III honorable-mention pick in 2023 and a second-teamer in Division IV in 2022.
She is Hillsdale’s first three-time all-state honoree since Sydney Long, who was a first-teamer in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Other recent three-timers include Jenn Moore (2010-2012) and Hannah Fulk (2007-2009), Hillsdale’s current coach.
The recently-crowned Wayne County Athletic League Most Valuable Player, Dalton led the Falcons to an outright WCAL title this spring. She batted .415 with six home runs, eight doubles and 30 runs batted in.
Dalton was joined on the special mention list by teammate Jordyn Fickes and Mapleton’s Heidi Earl.
Just a freshman, Fickes batted .549 with 43 runs scored, 33 RBIs, eight doubles, two triples and eight homers. She was selected to the All-WCAL first team.
Earl was the Firelands Conference Player of the Year, leading the Mounties to a share of the FC title. Mapleton tied for league honors with Division IV state runner-up Monroeville.
The Ursuline College-bound Earl — she will be joined at the Division II school by twin sister Holly — batted .567 with eight home runs, 10 doubles and 50 RBIs.
