It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Duane F. Baum age 82 of Ashland on June 30, 2024 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
Born in Willard, Ohio on November 24, 1941 the son of the late Leroy and Bernice Baum. He was a resident of Ashland County his entire life.
Duane worked for Harold’s Motor Company in Ashland, until he opened D.B. Auto Repair at his home in 1979. Duane was known as “one of the best Chrysler mechanics around”. Throughout his life he had may interests and hobbies. He enjoyed Stock car and Drag racing and in his younger years worked at Norwalk Raceway. Duane also enjoyed camping, woodworking and hunting. He was known as the “Chuck Hunter” and Duane enjoyed traveling out West to hunt Prairie Dogs. Duane never met a stranger and was best known for his “quick wit” and “story telling”.
Duane married the love of his life, Sharon Hanna, in June 1961. They raised two daughters and were happily married for 50 years until her passing in 2012.
Duane is survived by two daughters, Diane (Baum) Bartram and Darlene Baum (John Barr). Also surviving are three grandchildren; Larissa (Baum) Johnson, Jennifer Tackett, and Cameron Kirk (Allison Walker); Five great grandchildren, known as the A-Team; Aaliyah, Avery and Amyah Johnson, Annaleicia and Audriella Tackett, whom Duane lovingly referred to as #1,2,3,4 and 5. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Hazel Smith of Shelby, Ohio and his brother, Gary (Cindy) Baum of Colorado, and brothers and sisters in law; Laura Stoner, Marty and Deb Keets, Jim and Jean Hanna, Jack and Sue Graham, and Betty Drugan. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive as well as his dog, Freckles.
In keeping with Duane’s wishes there will be no funeral services held.
