ASHLAND — The Ashland County Board of Elections is committed to providing the most fair and efficient elections possible.
We need to share the responsibility of our commitment with over 150 Precinct Election Officials (PEOs). We are always on the lookout for more people to step up and become champions of democracy.
By serving as a PEO you get a chance to give back to your community, meet others from Ashland County, and preserve the democratic process.
In order to be a PEO, you must be a registered voter in Ashland County with no felony convictions. You must have voted in the most recent election, unless you are newly registered in Ashland County.
You will need to work the entire election day, from 5:30 a.m. to after the polls close at 7:30 p.m. when your manager dismisses you for the night.
Poll workers are paid $120 for election and day and another $20 for a mandatory training session.
Certain professions (lawyers, CPAs, social workers, and real estate agents) are eligible to receive required continued education learning credits for working a day at the polls.
This is a great chance to help yourself as well as helping out your community. Your association or the Ashland County Board of Elections will have more information.
In Ohio, 17-year-olds in high school can serve as poll workers. This is called the “Youth at the Booth” program. You may be able to earn extra credit, by asking you school or teacher if this is possible. If not, we request that they contact the office.
For this upcoming presidential election, we will need a lot more citizens of Ashland County to step up and serve a vital role in our democracy.
We need two Democrats and two Republicans assigned to each of our 39 precincts as well as many more to help Ashland County voters cast their ballots efficiently. We all serve in a bipartisanship manner and in a politically neutral environment.
Interested? Call our office at 419-282-4224 or stop by the office at 110 Cottage St. in Ashland.
