Joan McDermott Barrett, 93, died of natural causes at Brethren Care Nursing Center in Ashland on August 1st.

Joan was born in Philadelphia, PA but moved to Cleveland with her family during her childhood. She attended Collinwood High School in Cleveland but returned to Philadelphia to attend Immaculata College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught 3rd grade in Philadelphia at St. Agatha’s Catholic School, but eventually moved back to Cleveland to be with her family. She married Charles “Chuck” Barrett in 1957 was by his side for 60 years until his death in 2018.

Joan is survived by her son Michael, and his wife Anne, her grandchildren; Carter, Vivianne and Nicholas all of Ashland, and her other son Kenneth of Fairview Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Rod Kreidler presiding. A meal and time of fellowship will follow in the Parish Activity Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Church, 501 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to St. Edward School, 433 Cottage Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
