ASHLAND — The concert season continues Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 with “The Four Seasons.”
Grammy Award-winning Music Director and Conductor Michael Repper will conduct Sinfonia by Marianne Martínes. Guest artist, Grace Park, violin, will perform The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi and The Four Season in Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla. Repper will play continuo on harpsichord.
There will be a pre-concert discussion at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Robert M. & Janet L. Archer Auditorium. The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m.
There will be an encore performance of both Four Seasons with Grace Park on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the historic Ohio Theatre in Loudonville.
Marianne Martínes (1744-1812) is considered to be among the most acclaimed and prolific composers in Vienna during her lifetime. Sinfonia, C major, written when Martínes was 26 years old, is representative of her works in general and of numerous orchestral works being composed during the early years of the Classical period.
The Four Seasons by Vivaldi (1678-1741) is familiar to many listeners of classical music and to viewers of popular films.

Astor Piazzolla’s version (1921-1992), arranged by Leonid Desyatnikov, puts what were originally four separate tangos, into a more traditional concerto form. Vivaldi and Piazzolla lived in different hemispheres, so the audience is encouraged to listen for elements of Vivaldi’s “Winter” in Piazzolla’s “Summer,” etc.
Violinist Grace Park has been praised as being “fresh, different and exhilarating” (San Francisco Chronicle) and “intensely wrought and burnished” (Strings Magazine).
The ASO is excited to share both the Archer and Ohio Theatre stages with her! For more information about Grace Park, visit https://www.graceparkviolin.com/.
Michael Repper will be performing on a harpsichord on loan from Trinity Lutheran Church, Ashland.
