OLIVESBURG — Crestview’s uphill climb isn’t over quite yet.
The Cougars jumped five spots when the Ohio High School Athletic Association unveiled its weekly regional ratings Tuesday afternoon. Crestview is 15th in Region 22 and would likely clinch a sixth straight postseason berth with a win over Mapleton on Friday.
After dropping four straight games to open the season, Crestview (4-5) has won four of five to get into playoff contention. That stretch includes last week’s crucial win over playoff-bound Western Reserve (6-3).
Mapleton (4-5) is still alive in Region 22. The Mounties need a win over Crestview and some help to qualify for the playoffs.
Both unbeaten Ashland and Hillsdale already have qualified for the playoffs and will host first-round games, but still have plenty to play for Friday.
The Arrows and Falcons would likely earn top-four regional finishes with wins and give themselves opportunities to host a second-round playoff game.
The first two rounds of the playoffs are hosted by the higher-seeded team. Games shift to neutral sites beginning with the regional semifinals.
Ashland, which already has clinched at least a share of the Ohio Cardinal Conference championship, can win it outright Friday with a win over Lexington (5-4).
Hillsdale hosts Norwayne (8-1) with the winner earning the outright Wayne County Athletic League title.
The OHSAA will announce its first-round pairings Sunday.
