Douglas Schoonover, 59 of Colorado Springs, Colorado formerly of Ashland passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, 2024 in UC Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born on April 4, 1965 in Ashland, the son of Alvin L. and Beverly (nee Schoonover) Wiley.
Doug graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1983. At Ashland he was active in the F.F.A. program.
He retired after more than 20 years as a contract pilot in 2016. Doug was previously employed as a farmer and worked at Donley Seed and the Ashland County Airport.
Doug married the love of his life, the former Bernadine Ames on May 24, 2013.
He remained very active as a volunteer with the Ashland Balloon fest, Leadership Ashland, and of course farming. Before relocating to Colorado, he was a faithful attendant at Grace Brethren Church.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Mrs. Bernadine Schoonover; one son, Benjamin Schoonover; his granddaughter, Palmer Schoonover; and his mother, Beverly Wiley, all of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Wiley who passed from this life on July 13, 2016.
A memorial service celebrating Doug’s life will be held in Ashland at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Doug’s memory to the Alzheimer’ Association, 480 West Dussel Drive, Suite 140, Maumee, OH 43537.
