ASHLAND: George Walton Koch Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the age of 89, in Brethren Care, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 24, 1935, in Ashland, Ohio, to parents George Sr. & Helen (Kaufman) Koch. George graduated from Ashland High School with the class of 1953 and proudly served his country by joining the US Marine Corps Reserves in 1955. He was honorably discharged in October of 1961. George began working for General Motors in 1956 as a tool & die maker. He worked for 36 years, retiring in 1992, and after retirement, George began his home improvement business.
George married Cheryl Obrecht on June 19, 1960, and the pair were married for 63 years until Cheryl’s passing in December 2023.
He is survived by his children Chris (Darcie) Koch, Melissa Neece, and Michelle (Scott) Frasher; his grandchildren Natasha Williams, Nathan Williams, and Mason (Billie) Frasher; his great-grandchildren Ryan Williams, Caleb Williams, Jack Williams, Dane Frasher, and Gage Frasher; his siblings Ora (Lila June) Koch, Pat Clark, Richard (Sarah) Koch, Bonnie (Bud) Bush, Jerry (Kay) Koch, Joy Lynn (Steve) Plank, and Terry Dean Koch.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Koch, and his siblings Clayton
Koch, Lila May Leiter, Doug Koch, Ralph Koch, and Peggy Lane.
A graveside service will take place on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. in Pioneer Cemetery outside of Loudonville. Pastor Scott Woodlee will officiate.
