Marilyn Lee (Geddes) Perkins

Marilyn Perkins age 92, of Ashland, died peacefully on January 9, 2025 at Brookwood Place, Brethren Care Village of Ashland. She was born in Malta, Ohio on October 2, 1932, where she was raised. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Huffman) Geddes of Malta.
Mrs. Perkins was a graduate of M&M (Malta/McConnelsville) High School. She enjoyed all of her high school experiences, particularly being in band, choir, and Castellia, and was honored to be chosen as delegate to Buckeye Girls State in her Junior year. After graduation she attended Cosmetology school in Columbus. She worked as a hair-dresser during her early adult years.

Marilyn married the love of her life, Edward Lee Perkins of Malta, Ohio on June 8, 1952. The couple was married for 61 years. In the early years of their marriage, she worked as a hair dresser while her husband pursued his higher education. Then she spent many years doing what she most enjoyed in life – in her own words “All I ever really wanted to do was be a wife, mother, and have a happy home.” In 1969 the couple moved to Ashland where Ed was employed by Ashland City Schools in Administration and as School Psychologist. Marilyn enjoyed working as Assistant Librarian at Ashland High School for ten years.

In their later years, the couple enjoyed traveling, and particularly loved the southwest United States. They spent time traveling in their RV before settling in Tucson, AZ where their favorite activity was mountain hiking, and golf.

Marilyn said “The most important thing life has taught me is that family and friends are your greatest possessions, to be cherished, and to listen to that small inner voice. It’s usually right!” Those were words she lived by. She left a legacy of love, guidance, and grace to all her family and friends.

The oldest of 5 children she is survived by sisters, Carolyn Kelly Palos of Paso Robles, California, Ginny Myers of Sherman Oaks, California, and Lynette Lipham of Canton, Georgia; her two daughters, Helen (Curt) Schussler of Ashland, and Suellen (Ken) Risser of Palm Harbor, Florida; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother Jerry Geddes. A memorial service will be planned at a later date to accommodate family and friends who may need to arrange traveling plans.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no local services held in Ashland, the family will have a memorial service in McConnelsville, Ohio at a later date.
