ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra presents “Storied Songs,” on Saturday, March 8, at 3 p.m. at the Robert M. & Janet L. Archer Auditorium.
This free family concert is for all ages and no tickets are required.
The ASO will perform Peter and the Wolf by Serge Prokofiev and Orchestrapaedia by Roxanna Panufnik.
The musicians and Grammy award winning Music Director Michael Repper are delighted to tell these Storied Songs.
Peter and the Wolf is a narrated piece telling the adventures of a boy named Peter meeting and interacting with a variety of animals.
animal is portrayed by a different instrument which brings the story to life. Composed and written in 1936, the narration has been revised for modern audiences.
The story will be read by Ashland’s own David Kowalka.
The orchestra is excited to present the U.S. premiere of Orchestrapaedia. Composed in 2013, the ASO is only the second orchestra to perform this piece.
Each instrument is personified through rhythms and storyline with illustrations by Jem Panufnik.
The images take the audience to a curious new world of colorful instruments, each with their own story to tell.
Orchestrapædia is presented with support from the Ashland County Community Foundation Women’s Fund.
Preconcert activities will be available in the lobby from 2 to 2:45 p.m. and include crafts, the instrument petting zoo, and a display of books from the Ashland Public Library.
The concert will start promptly at 3 p.m. and is approximately one hour in length.
