John M. Whitmer, 85 of Ashland passed away on Tuesday afternoon, March 11, 2025 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
He was born on November 9, 1939 at home in Ashland, the son of the late Harris Lyle and Ruth Eleanor (nee Carskaden) Whitmer.
John graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1957. Following his graduation he proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years.
He married the love of his life the former Janet Brennstuhl on May 10, 1964.
John retired in 2009 from Taggarts Heating and Cooling and worked previously at Reibolt Heater Company.
During his retirement years, he taught HVAC classes at the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center for many years.
He was a devoted member of the King Road Christian Church where he served as a deacon, an elder, chairman of the board of trustees and played in the bell choir. In his earlier years he served as a scout leader and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and sudoku.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Janet Whitmer of Ashland; his children, Todd (Sarah Olenik) Whitmer of Litchfield and Yvonne (Wade) Kimball of Delaware; and a grandson, Nathaniel Whitmer of Lewis Center.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Arlene Whitmer.
In keeping with his wishes, no services will be observed. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery.
