NANKIN — The Mapleton Local School board approved the resignation of athletic director Shelly Stackhouse on Monday.
Stackhouse left for an opportunity in Alaska, according to Supt. Scott Smith.

She resigned March 11, and her last day in the district was March 28, per an emailed resignation letter. She also stepped down from her position as a bus driver for the district.
“I am sincerely going to miss my positions at Mapleton Local Schools. I have some great memories,” she wrote.
“On to my next adventure ALASKA HERE I COME.”
Stackhouse had served in the position since October 2023, stepping up after the district’s previous athletic director resigned one month earlier.
She played a role in helping Mapleton’s sports teams raise funds to cover students’ pay-to-participate fees as part of the job, according to previous Ashland Source reporting.
Middle school Principal Cory Runkle will take over as interim athletic director. The board also approved that on Monday.
Smith said Runkle is maintaining his duties as a principal and working as athletic director during the day as time allows. He’s also putting time into the athletic director position after school.
The positions for both middle school and high school athletic director are posted on Mapleton Local Schools’ website.
Anyone interested in filling the position for the 2025-2026 school year can email Mapleton High School principal Corey Kline at ckline@imountie.org.
