COLUMBUS — Richland Source sports reporter Curt Conrad was runner-up in the annual Ohio Prep Sports Media Association Sportswriter of the Year competition, the OPSMA announced Monday.

The writing contest included submissions from the 2024 calendar year and was judged by OPSMA members. There were four writing categories in two divisions based on circulation size.

Each category was judged by two members from another division. Writers and photographers were judged on a body of work that included three submissions per category.

Conrad, a Hillsdale gradaute, competed in Division I for web sites and traditional newspapers with daily circulations of 10,000 or more. He placed second in news writing and feature writing and third in game coverage and column writing.

He was the only writer in Division I or Division II to place in all four writing categories, finishing with 14 points.

John Kampf of the Willoughby News-Herald was the Division I Sportswriter of the Year. Kampf had the winning entries in game coverage and column writing and finished with 15 points.

Jake Furr from the Mansfield News Journal received a second-place in column writing in Division I.

Rob McCurdy of the Marion Star was selected the Division II Sportswriter of the Year. McCurdy had 14 points.
