ASHLAND — The Mapleton chapter of the National Honor Society spearheaded a school-wide day of caring to participate in community service projects throughout the Mapleton School District and Ashland County.
Mapleton Cares Day happened Wednesday, May 7 and sent Mapleton High School students out to 18 community locations for volunteer work.
“It is important to our district to show students the value of community service and providing a helping hand to those who need it, simply for the good of helping your community,” said Corey Kline, the Mapleton High School principal.
Mapleton Middle School students worked around the Mapleton campus on projects such as weeding, mulching, cleaning windows and more.
“I enjoy Cares Day because I like helping the community and getting to go to all of the parks,” said junior Nevaeh Anderson.
NHS Advisor Kerry Reisinger believes that community service is part of being a contributing citizen to your community.
“Many of these community organizations, such as youth leagues, fire departments, county parks, churches and more need volunteers to help their programs,” Reisinger said.
“Mapleton is proud to offer students the opportunity to give back to these community groups. All citizens are able to give back in some way and our students look forward to helping others on Cares Day.”
Mapleton Cares Day took place on Wednesday, May 7 between 9:00 a.m. and noon. Many local businesses sponsored this event.
