Donald E. McCracken age 78 of Ashland, passed away on May 12, 2025, at Western Reserve Hospital. Born in Ashland on October 12, 1946 the son of Albert J. and Jean (Dessenberg) McCracken, he was a resident of Ashland County all of his life.
Mr. McCracken was employed at The Timken Company for 32 years until the time of his retirement. He was a member of Ashland High School Class of 1964 and was an active member of Grace Church. Donald served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He also served as an auxiliary Ohio State Highway Patrolman and enjoyed assisting the patrolmen with traffic stops and giving support to accident victims. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and liked making furniture for family.
On November 20, 1976 he was married to Alyce Clifford who survives.
In addition to his wife Alyce, Donald is survived by two children: Donald McCracken Jr. of Ashland and Tisha Fraley of Hayesville. One stepdaughter also survives, Tami Thompson of Dublin, Ohio. Also surviving are six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two sisters; Ann M. Callahan and Susan C. Hamilton both of Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David L. McCracken.
A Celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Heyl Funeral Home with Pastor Norm Johnson officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at 12:00 pm.
