TWINSBURG — The Falcons found a way.
Second-seeded Hillsdale managed just three hits, but scored a pair of unearned runs and scratched out a 2-0 win over Columbiana Crestview in a Division VI district final at Twinsburg.
Hillsdale pitcher Keira Filius and Crestview starter Emma Snyder traded zeros for the first three innings before the Falcons struck in the bottom of the fourth. Kennedy Fickes drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a two-out single, plating Taylor Schmitz.
Hillsdale (20-7) scored an insurance run in the sixth. Kiki McFadden stroked a leadoff double and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Filius went the distance, limiting the Rebels (14-11) to one hit. She struck out eight and walked one.
Alivia Shelter had the only hit for Crestview, a two-out double in the second.
Hillsdale advances to next week’s regional tournament and will play Wayne County Athletic League rival Dalton at 5 p.m. May 28 at Akron’s Firestone Stadium. Dalton swept the Falcons during the regular season.
