ASHLAND: James Richard Derr passed away peacefully on his 77th birthday, Saturday, May 24, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 24, 1948, in Millersburg, Ohio to his parents Richard & Mary (Straits) Derr. Jim graduated from Loudonville High School with the class of 1966, and married Linda Lee Roberts on December 19, 1970.
Jim worked for Peabody Barnes as an engineer, Roberts Pumps and Conditioners, and was the co-owner of Pine Island Tree Farm with partners Mike Nussbaum and Larry Morris.
In his spare time, Jim took pleasure in oil painting various wildlife and landscape scenes, wild game hunting, gardening, and several home renovations throughout the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Linda Derr; his children William Derr, Stephen (Carla) Derr, Marlo (Justin) Chaney, Janice (Dustin) Birky, Margaret (Nate) Miracle, and Gregory (Jessica) Derr; his grandchildren Tyler Chaney, Brae Chaney, Oliver Miracle, Wesley Miracle, Savannah Derr, Sawyer Derr, Rigg Birky, Piper Birky, Evelyn Derr, Scarlett Derr, Penelope Derr, and Parker Derr; his siblings Joseph Derr, Rita Cotter, Joanie Few, and Ann Thomas.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Brian Harper.
The Derr family invites family and friends to a graveside service honoring Jim’s life on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the St. Peter Cemetery, Loudonville.
