ASHLAND — Firelands Electric Cooperative will be selecting up to 25 high school students to attend its third annual Cooperative Youth Day.
This free, all-day chartered bus trip to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus will take place on Thursday, Oct. 23.
This year, the program is open to any student in grades 9 to 12 attending one of the schools in or around Firelands Electric Cooperative’s service territory (Ashland, Huron, Lorain, or Richland counties).
Representatives from the co-op will accompany the selected students to Columbus, where they will be joined by additional students and staff from other electric cooperatives in northern Ohio.
Participants will explore Ohio’s government, history, and politics, with opportunities to tour the Statehouse, meet with legislators, visit the Ohio Statehouse Museum, and check out the nearby Ohio History Center.
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and a gift bag of Firelands Electric swag are also included.
The short online application for Cooperative Youth Day only takes a few minutes to complete and is available at www.firelandsec.com/cooperative-youth-day. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.
