Galion started on steady ground by forging a 14-6 lead over Shelby at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers jumped a meager margin over the Whippets as both teams headed to make end of the second quarter adjustments.
Nothing was decided in the third quarter, with Shelby and Galion locked in a 28-28 stalemate.
The Whippets got the better of the fourth-quarter scoring, finishing the game in style with a 17-6 edge.
Last season, Shelby and Galion squared off on Sept. 20, 2024 at Galion High School.
