ASHLAND — Ashland County is home to two undefeated football teams, and a third is contending for a conference championship.
It’s a fall to remember for local high school football fans.
Coach Scott Valentine’s Ashland Arrows continue their quest for a second consecutive undefeated regular season, and a postseason invitation. The Arrows are 7-0 overall, 3-0 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference after rolling 48-19 last week at Mansfield Senior.
Ashland will take a 17-game regular-season winning streak into Friday night’s tricky home clash with West Holmes (5-2, 3-1).
The 11th-ranked Arrows are fourth in Division II, Region 7 with 14.1786 points. The top 12 schools in each region in the final report on Oct. 26 qualify for the playoffs. The top four seeds get a first-round bye.
No one has to explain the scenario to Hillsdale. The Falcons are the defending Division VII state runners-up.
Coach Trevor Cline’s club is 7-0, 4-0 in the Wayne County Athletic League after dispatching Waynedale 45-13 in last week’s road date. That mark is good enough for the top spot in Region 27 with 11.6786 points.
The fourth-ranked Falcons will be heavily favored on Friday night at Northwestern (1-6, 1-3).
Crestview earned a key, 30-21 win over nemesis Norwalk St. Paul on Friday night to improve to 5-2 overall, 4-0 in the Firelands Conference.
That win puts the Cougars to 12th in Division VI, Region 23 with 7.4643 points. Coach Steve Haverdill’s squad travels to Western Reserve (5-2, 3-1) Friday night in a huge encounter with a bevy of playoff points and conference leadership implications.
