Fred K. Halama, 85 of Ashland passed from this life on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at home with his son at his bedside.
He was born on September 13, 1940 in Cleveland, the son of the late Frank and Rita (nee Wetzel) Halama.
Fred graduated from high school in 1958 and joined the national guard in 1959. In 1960, Fred was called to active duty in the United States Army and proudly served two years and completed his reservist’s responsibility in 1966 during the Vietnam War.
He married the love of his life, the former Norma K. Amsbaugh on March 25, 1961.
Fred retired after more than 28 years in 1994 from the GTE phone company where he was a switch tech.
Throughout his life, Fred loved to work on electronics and on computers. It appealed to his meticulous attention to details.
He is survived by his son, Ken (Sylvia) Halama of Ashland; two grandsons, Trent Halama of Orlando, Florida and Trey Halama of Carrabelle, Florida; one brother, Tom (Jeanette) Halama of Medina; and a sister-in-law, Linda Baughman of Ashland.
In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Norma Halaman who passed from this life on September 2, 2017; one son, Mark Halama who passed from this life on December 19, 2022; and a brother-in-law, Norman Baughman.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home. The Ashland Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the conclusion of the visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ashland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1021 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
