WOOSTER — Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Trooper Josiah D. Custer has been selected 2025 Trooper of the Year at the Wooster post.
The selection of Trooper Custer, 30, is in recognition of outstanding service during 2025 at the Wooster patrol post.
Fellow officers stationed at the Wooster Post chose Trooper Custer based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.
Trooper Custer is now in contention for the District and State Trooper of the Year Award to be announced at a later date.
Trooper Custer joined the Highway Patrol in 2016 and has served at the Wooster Post since graduating the academy.
Trooper Custer is originally from Ashland, OH and is a graduate of Temple Christian School in Mansfield, OH. Other Highway Patrol awards received in the past include: The Highway Patrol’s ACE Award, Criminal Patrol Award, Safe Driving Award and Physical Fitness Award.
Trooper Custer also received the Patrol’s Master Trooper designation in 2024 and is a field training officer.
This is Trooper Custer’s second time being selected as post trooper of the year. Trooper Custer and his wife, Cassidy, live in Ashland with their children: Brady, 7, Daxx, 6, and Nash, 4.
