Mabel N. Long, a resident of Ashland, passed away on December 18, 2025, at Kingston of Ashland.

Born in 1932 to James and Ethel (Moore) Bowman in Ontario Canada, she was the youngest of three sisters, Fern (Murray) McGlashan and Alice (Ronald) McGlashan, all deceased.

She first married John (Jack) A. Gladwell of Hamilton, Ontario, on October 14, 1950. Three children were born to this marriage: Jan (John) Kerr of Brookville, PA, Leslie (David) Britenbucher of Ashland, OH and J. David (Cindy) Gladwell of Barboursville, WV. The family moved to Wadsworth, OH in 1960, when Jack began preaching for the Church of Christ there. He later served the churches in Lancaster, OH, Ashland, OH, and Marion, OH. During these years, Mabel continued her education and graduated from Ashland College in 1982. She was employed in the accounting department of Abbott Labs, and later at Fairfield Erectors, Inc. in Marion, retiring in 1989. Her husband Jack passed away in 1997.

Leroy Long and Mabel Gladwell were married in 2000 and lived in Marion until December 2001, when they moved to Ashland. Both were active in the Ashland Church of Christ until Leroy’s health failed, and he entered Brethren Care Village. He passed away in 2013.

Surviving are her three children, seven grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Kerr of Jacksonville, FL, Amy (Joe) Himes, of Hawthorn, PA, Jeremy (Lois) Kerr of Rossiter, PA, Dr. Jessica (Adam) Yonley of Willard, OH, Nikki Honaker of Barboursville, WV, Jonathan (Samantha) Kerr of Adrian, MI, and Drew (Katie) Gladwell of Milton, WV. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Guy (Marty) Long of Mansfield, OH and Leroy’s stepdaughters, Nancy (Gayle) Richmond and Kathy (Larry) Laird of Kokomo, IN, along with their children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her parents, sisters and one grandson, Steven Kerr and one grandson in-law, J.R. Honaker.

In addition to the Church, Mabel’s interests and hobbies included music, reading, needlework, playing euchre and walking her beloved dog, Muffy.

A Celebration of Mabel’s life will be held on January 10, 2026, at 11:00 at the Church of Christ, 1185 C.R. 1356, Ashland, OH, with Ministers J. David Gladwell, John Kerr and Tim Nowlin officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the memorial service on January 10, 2026, at the church building.
