ASHLAND — Bond was set at $500,000 on Tuesday for a Greenwich man charged with rape, kidnapping and possession of criminal tools.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Alexander Albrecht, 26, on Saturday on the five felony counts.

Ashland County Common Pleas Court Magistrate Paul Lange set the bond during a hearing that Albrecht attended virtually from the Ashland County Jail.

The charges

Michaeal Alexander Albrecht appears for a bond hearing on Feb. 17.

The three rape offenses allegedly took place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, 2025, in Ashland County, according to court records.

Each alleged incident involved the same adult female victim, Ashland County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Metcalf said during the bond hearing.

The kidnapping, which was for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity as alleged in the charge, took place in Ashland and/or Huron County, according to Lange’s reading of the charge.

The criminal tools allegedly involved were condoms and a 2012 Ford Exhibition.

Metcalf asked Lange for the cash bond to be set at $500,000 because the alleged crimes are “pretty serious charges,” he said.

Metcalf said Albrecht allegedly met with the victim, who is seven years younger than himself “to hang out and watch movies,” after meeting online.

“She is very clear she does not want to have sexual intercourse,” Metcalf said.

Then, Albrecht allegedly drove the victim to a corn field, where he engaged in three different acts of sexual intercourse, “all by force and threat of force,” Metcalf said.

After the victim left, she immediately got a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) evaluation, which is a medical-forensic exam that, in this case, included a rape kit to test for DNA from the perpetrator. She also informed her parents about what happened.

Metcalf also said the victim has an injury in her private area.

“His DNA, it appears is on her. It appears in a manner that would only be there if they did engage in sexual conduct just as the victim alleges,” Metcalf said.

Metcalf said that “they” went to speak with Albrecht, who “vehemently denied” having sex with the victim, denying that he even knew her. It is not clear if Metcalf was referring to the victim’s parents or the person involved in administering the SANE evaluation.

Future proceedings

If convicted, Metcalf said Albrecht, who has no prior criminal history, would face 44 years in prison and would be required to register as a sex offender.

Albrecht rubbed his eyes and shook his head, visibly upset upon hearing the potential sentencing.

Albrecht qualified for court-appointed counsel. Zach Meranda will represent him.

His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. via video.
