ASHLAND — The Arrows will have their hands full.

Ashland picked up the No. 7 seed in Sunday’s Division II Northwest District tournament draw and will open the postseason against No. 2 Toledo St. John’s. The district semifinal game is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 4 at Toledo Central Catholic High School.

How loaded is the Division II field?

Seven of the eight teams in the draw boast winning records. The Arrows (13-8) were seeded seventh among those seven teams despite wining a share of the Ohio Cardinal Conference crown.

St. John’s (17-5) competes in the rugged Central Division of the Detroit-based Catholic High School League. St. John’s became the first Toledo school to win the CHSL championship after beating Detroit Catholic Central 48-47 in the tournament final earlier this month.

Forward Koy Hamic scored 15 points in the win. The 6-foot-6 senior was the quarterback of St. John’s football team in the fall and recently signed with Ashland University.

The winner advances to play either No. 3 Toledo St. Francis (12-9) or No. 4 Toledo Start (11-8) in the district final. St. Francis and Start meet in the late game March 4 at Central Catholic.
