MOUNT GILEAD — A Mount Gilead man was killed Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle crash in Morrow County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

John A. Walker, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Patrol stated. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The incident took place at 5:43 a.m. on County Road 24 at County Road 228 in Peru Township.

According to the Patrol, Michael L. Petros, 55, of Caledonia, was operating a 2012 Honda Accord southeast bound on County Road 228.  Walker was operating a 2017 Jeep Wrangler southwest bound on County Road 24.

The Patrol stated that Petros failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by Walker’s Jeep Wrangler. After impact, both vehicles traveled off the southwest corner of the intersection and Petros’ vehicle struck a tree.

Petros was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS, Delaware County EMS, and the Elm Valley Fire Department.

Alcohol/drugs are unknown factors in this crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear a seatbelt while in a motor vehicle.
