It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald “Don” Bowman on May 1, 2026, at the age of 83 at Brethren Care in Ashland, Ohio.
He was born in Lima, Ohio on July 16, 1942 to Bob and Rosie Bowman. Don was raised in the community of Butler, Ohio. Following a mid year move during his senior year to Ontario, Ohio, Don graduated from Ontario High School in 1960. Don went on to play football for a season at Ashland College and graduated in 1966.
As a Certified Public Accountant, Don served both the Galion and Ashland Communities for many years. He ended his career with the firm “Baker, Bowman and Co.” in Ashland. Don would say that he worked for fifty and a half years always adding that half year.
Don was a sixty-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also active in the Ashland Noon Lions Club and a number of professional organizations.
Don was an avid golfer and was a multiple winner of the annual AU golf tournament. He and wife Sue, took their family on trips that included travel to all 50 states. Don was a life long sports fan of all Ashland University athletics. You would find him on the top row of Cates Gymnasium and at the AU Football games.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue, of Ashland, son Chris (Laura) Bowman of Wooster, daughters; Diane Archer and Deana Mansperger, both of Ashland, beloved grandchildren; Marissa Mansperger (Nick Roland), Mariah Mansperger (Courtney) and Eric Morningstar (Tonya), 10 great-grandchildren, sister Roberta (Fred) Heeren of Ashland, and special nephew James Jarvis of Greenville, S.C..
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home, 313 Center St., Ashland, Ohio 44805, with Dan Jarvis officiating, a private burial will be held at a later date. Friends may call prior to the services from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
