ASHLAND — Two new parks are planned to be installed along each side of U.S. 250 in Bailey Lakes.
Ashland County Board of Commissioners clerk Nikki Hiller said the estimate for the project was $140,000. Hiller opened and announced the four bids received for the work during Thursday’s meeting.
She said bidders were asked to include a bid bond, as well as the cost of installation, in their bid. Bailey Lakes Mayor John Benshoff had planned to attend Thursday’s bid opening but was feeling under the weather, Hiller said.
Below are the four bid amounts:
- Bluegrass Recreation Sales (Danville, Ky.): $134,190.50
- DWA Recreation (Harrison): $130,853.10
- Snider Recreation (North Royalton): $140,000
- Service Supply (Reynoldsburg): $96,000 *(not including installation costs) (did not include a bid bond)
The bid submitted by Service Supply was ultimately rejected by commissioners due to the lack of a bid bond and omission of installation costs.
Hiller said she hopes to have a contract ready for the board to approve next week so work on the parks can be completed this summer.
What to expect at two new parks
In January, Ashland County was awarded $150,000 through the Community Development Block Grant Allocation Program. Those funds are being used to help purchase and install the playground equipment for the pair of planned parks.
Ringler Park — the larger of the two — will be located at the intersection of Highland Boulevard and Wesley Street. Ariel Isaacs, the village’s council president, previously said the park will feature a jungle gym, swings, rockers and spinners.
The smaller park, which officials plan to name “Lakeview Park,” will be located along Lake Drive and situated on property overseeing Savannah Lake. It will feature a jungle gym and swings, Isaacs said in 2025.
