Robert J. Bemis, 81 of Ashland passed away from this life early Thursday morning, April 16, 2026, following a brief illness in the Kingston of Vermillion.
He was born on September 6, 1944, in Ecorse, Michigan, the son of the late Carleton and Iva May (nee Nash) Bemis.
Robert graduated from Ecorse High School, Class of 1963. Her furthered his education and earned his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Michigan. He later completed his pre-dissertation doctoral studies at Michigan State University. He taught chemistry at Lansing Community College for some years. He then worked in various companies in the Sandusky/Mansfield Ashland areas as an industrial chemist.
Robert married the love of his life, the former, Virginia Thompson on June 6, 1970. He and his wife Virginia were former members of Grace Episcopal Church in Mansfield and were active members of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Ashland.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Dr. Virginia T. Bemis, who passed away on April 12, 2022.
He will be laid to rest in Michigan with his late wife, Virginia.
