CANAAN TOWNSHIP — A Rittman woman and a Polk woman hurt Monday morning after a three-vehicle crash in Canaan Township, according to the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Doris L. Mace, 61, of Rittman, was a passenger in one of the vehicles, the Post stated. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates a blue 2024 Chevrolet Trax was traveling southbound on State Route 83 and a white 2024 Chevrolet Voyager was northbound on State Route 83.
The Chevrolet Trax failed to yield the right of way and initiated a left turn with intent to travel east on State Route 604 when it collided with the northbound Chrysler.
The Chrysler traveled off the east side of the roadway and came to rest in a field. The Chevrolet Trax was redirected as a result of the collision and struck a light green 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer which was southbound on State Route 83 traveling behind the Chevrolet Trax.
Brittany R. Covender, 35, of Akron, was operating the Chevrolet Trax, was not utilizing a safety belt, and sustained serious injuries.
Cindy L. Jewell Frink, 47, of Massillon, was operating the Chrysler Voyager, wearing her safety belt, and sustained minor injuries.
Marceline C. Heilman, 56, of Polk, was a passenger in the Chrysler Voyager. Heilman was wearing her safety belt and sustained minor injuries.
Mace was a passenger in the Chrysler Voyager. Mace was restrained utilizing a safety belt system. Mace was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Todd J. Lewis, 62, of Medina, was operating the Chevrolet Trailblazer, wearing his safety belt and sustained no apparent injuries.
The crash is currently still under investigation.
