David Alan Campbell, 79 of Ashland passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 7, 2026, in Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born on December 24, 1946, in Elkins, West Virginia, the son of the late Ernest and Hazel (nee Louk) Campbell.

Dave moved to Savannah and started second grade at Savannah Grade School. He played drums in the school band, played baseball as a youngster. He carried newspapers and mowed yards for his neighbors.

Dave graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1965. The next winter he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in the First Calvary as a helicopter crewman.

He married the love of his life, the former Doris Canfield, on June 2, 1972, and together celebrated 50 wonderful years together.

He was a devoted member of the Polk Church of Christ. Dave enjoyed playing golf, working at Brookside Golf Course, and attending veteran’s events. More than 20 years, Dave assisted with the Junior Golf Program at Brookside. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie #2178 in Ashland.

Dave retired after more than 35 years from Frontier Communication in 2000.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Neikirk-Martin of Tampa, Florida; a son-in-law, Scott Swineford of Hamilton, Ohio. Grandchildren include Conrad (Crystal) Martin of Dunnellon, Florida, Carrie Drumm-Milburn of Tampa, Florida, Jason Bosley of Ashland, Ohio, Stacy (Aaron) Powell of Englewood, Ohio and by 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; three sisters, A. Jo. Biddinger of Ashland, Jeanette Cutlip of Elkins, West Virginia, and Betty (Bob) Stine of Ashland; one brother, Jerry Cambell of Ashland; brother-in-law, Denny (Sue) Canfield of Ashland; sister-in-law, Peg Kerr of North Fort Myers, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his wife, Doris K. Campbell who passed from this life on March 2, 2022; two daughters, Kelly Swineford and Karolee Campbell-Bottorff; granddaughter Kristin Breidenbach; three brothers, John, Ernie, and Herbert Campbell; sister-in-law, Patricia (Ed) Rogers; brothers-in-law, Leo (Patricia) Canfield and Wesley (Shirley) Canfield; and brother-in-law, Bill Kerr.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Nankin Cemetery, where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Family and friends may visit two hours prior from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
