Ila Mae Winland, 83 of Ashland passed away early Friday morning, July 31, 2026 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.
She was born on September 14, 1942 in Antioch, Ohio the daughter of the late William and Nellie Josephine (nee Eickleberry) Howell.
Ila married the love of her life, Roy Winland on September 13, 1956. For more than 50 years, she offered day care services out of her home. In addition, she would clean local businesses and houses and offer laundry services.
She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years and taught Sunday School for many years. Throughout her life, she loved to travel to Myrtle Beach with her family, shop, and flower gardening. Ila was a great cook and baker, making homemade bread, noodles and pies. The aroma of fresh baked goods swept through her neighborhood. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by her four children, Christine (Joe) Fannin of Wakeman, Carol Griffith of Ashland, Juanita (Ed) Bowman of Ashland and Roy “Jay” (Laura) Winland Jr. of Jeromesville; her five grandchildren, Nichole (Mike) Lang of Ashland, Brasta (Chris) Lialios of Polk, Bronson (Molly) Bernard of Loudonville, Aubrie (Aaron) Vance of Colombia, South America, and Judson Winland of Margaretville, New York; and eighteen great-grandchildren, Lexus, Jaden, Nevaeh, Maleah, and Evangeline Lang, Macy and Ridge Bernard, Amira, Anabel, Aris, Alethea, and Alexander Vance, Braden, Isaac, Jace, Alexander and Elysia Lialios and Domenica Winland; her siblings, David Lee Howell, Lena Lillian Piatt, Connie Sue Gardner, Sharon Lee Workman, Pauline Baker, and Ronald Dale “Bub” (Judy) Howell; and Roy’s siblings, Norma Jean Pentello of Columbus, Pam Winland of Woodsfield; and Don (Brenda) Winland of Ashland.
In addition to her parents, Ila is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Roy Winland who passed away on October 3, 2015; one son-in-law, Chuck Griffith; her siblings, Sarah, Donna, Mary Jane “Patsy”, Wilford “Punkin” and Debbra Lynn; and Roy’s siblings, Floyd (Patsy) Winland, Carl (Linda) Winland, and Walter Winland.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Matt Stollings presiding. Interment will follow in the Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church.
