Barbara J. Highman age 87 of Ashland, passed away at her residence on July 27, 2026,surrounded by her family
Born in Louisa, Kentucky on March 28, 1939, the daughter of Russell Borders and Nora Lee Walker, she had been a resident of Ashland County since 1960. Before her retirement, she had been employed at Abbott Labs. Barbara loved spending time with her family and bragging about how big her family was. She was a life member of Amvets post 96, past president of the auxiliary. Also life member of VFW post 1067. She enjoyed dancing and bingo. She enjoyed visiting family in W. Virginia.
On Oct 13, 1984 she married Ramon “Pete” Highman who preceded her in death on July 6, 1999.
She is survived by four daughters: Angela Smith of Ashland, Debra (Sue)(Mike)Rollins of Ashland, Teresa Holland of Ashland and Crystal (Rory Hales) Coffman of Ashland. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Timothy and Jeremy Burkhalter, Mark Jr., Kevin and Todd Flint. Wendy Sexton, Melissa Coffman, Candy Workman, Tiffiney Shambre, Ashley Steele, Carissa Groscost, Brittney Pelton, and Cassie Coffman. 30 great-grandchildren, and numerous great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two special friends, Jerry Coffman and Mark Flint.
In addition to her husband Pete, she is preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Pauline Harding, Jean Huff, Brenda Huff, Walter Bartram, Ricky Bartram and Michael Bartram. Also preceding her in death is one great grandson, Wyatt Culp.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her residence on August 8, 4pm- 7pm. Ask a family member if you need her address.
