Barbara L. Woodring, 89 of Nankin passed away on Sunday morning, August 9, 2026, in her home following a period of declining health.
She was born on March 30, 1937, in Reedsburg, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Virginia (nee Sours) Steward.
Barbara graduated from Savanah High School, Class of 1955. She was employed for more than 15 years at the T&A Grocery Store as a cashier and bakery worker. She also worked for many years at Mapleton High School, and Home Hardware.
She married Joseph H. Woodring on December 8, 1972.
Barbara was a devoted member of the Maple Grove Church of Brethren where she remained active helping with funeral luncheons and rummage sales. She enjoyed playing euchre with her family and friends. For more than 23 years, Barb and Joe traveled to St. Cloud, Florida and would bring home fish for a family fish fry each spring. In her earlier years, she spent time quilting. Most of all, Barbara loved her family and spending time with everyone and always making sure they knew how she loved them and appreciated them. She had a heart made of gold and shared it with those around her.
She is survived by her loving children, Susan (Max) Robinson of Clarklake, Michigan, Patricia (Charles) Fleming of Merritt Island, Florida, Robert (Candy Sherrick) Shank of Ashland, Pam Kiplinger of Ashland, and Deb Gorman of Ashland; three step-children, Brenda Rose of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Michael (Linda) Woodring of Millersburg and Almira Marks of Nathalie, VA; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; her sister, Charlotte John’s of West Salem; her sister-in-law, Jean (Tom) Sprinkle of Ashland; and her brother-in-law, Harold Keener of Ashland.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Joe who passed away on April 1, 2013; one son, Jerry (Pam) Shank; her sister, Nancy Keener; her brother, John Steward Jr.; her brother-in-law, Phil Johns; stepchildren, Kathy O’Dell, William Woodring, David Woodring and Teddy Woodring.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren with Pastor Steve Keib and Pastor John Ballinger presiding. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Grove Church of the Brethren or Gentiva Hospice.
