No citations issued during OVI checkpoint Friday evening in Ashland, says patrol

ASHLAND — No citations were issued Friday evening during an OVOI checkpoint conducted by the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers, assisted by the Ashland Police Department and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, conducted the checkpoint on Claremont Avenue in the city of Ashland from 8 to 10 p.m.

The patrol said approximately 123 vehicles went through the checkpoint and the drivers were checked for impairment.

The goal of the checkpoint was to increase public awareness of the dangers of operating a vehicle while impaired and also deter impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel, troopers said.

“Checkpoints are an effort to make motorists more conscious of the impaired driver problem in Ohio and to help bring about a reduction in the number of alcohol and/or drug-related crashes. I feel like our efforts tonight helped get us closer to meeting those goals.”
