Miriam L. Ritchie, 92 of Ashland passed away peacefully at Kingston September 10th. She was born November 24,1933 at her home in Ashland. Her parents were Jay and Grace Iceman. She raised her family and then eventually worked at IGA in Warsaw,OH. When the family moved back to the Ashland area she worked as a cafeteria lady in the Mansfield City Schools.

Miriam was active with the Warsaw Methodist Church, Warsaw garden club,Riverview Booster Club, Hayesville Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Mifflin Lions swiss steak supper which she was known as the “pie lady”. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, playing cards, bingo, and was on a bowling league. Miriam enjoyed gardening and planting flowers. There were many times she would be out pulling weeds and taking care of her plants early morning. She enjoyed entering many items in the Ashland Fair. She also enjoyed watching the livestock show at the fair. Don and Miriam enjoyed spending time with family especially the visits to the Amish country and taking long rides.

Miriam enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Making the turkey stuffing was her speciality. She enjoyed canning several kinds of pickles and other vegetables and fruits. While the family lived in Warsaw she always had a pie made for anyone who would stop by to visit them. At the age of 91 she baked 7 pies for the Hayesville church rummage sale. Whenever she and Don would visit the great grandchildren she would always have homemade tapioca and frozen strawberries for them.

Miriam was a strong determined woman who courageously fought many health issues this past year.

Miriam is preceded in death by her husband Donald Ritchie. They were married November 25,1955; three daughters Jean (Don)Vipperman, Marla (Nick Sarchet) Garrison, and Judy Ritchie. They had two grandchildren Matthew(Becca)Vipperman and Elizabeth(Patrick) Gallagher. They had four great grandchildren, Gavin, Natalie, Grant and Bryce Vipperman. She is survived by sister-in-law, Mary Huff, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:00 on Monday, September 14 at the Hayesville Methodist Church with Pastor John Rozewicz officiating. Burial will be in the Vermillion Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:00-11:00 before the service at the church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kingston for taking good care of their loved one.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to the Hayesville Methodist Church, the Hayesville Fire Department or the Ashland County Cancer Society.
