Charles “Chuck” Switzer, 77 of Ashland passed from this life on Saturday afternoon, September 19, 2026, in his home.
He was born on March 18, 1949, in Mansfield, the son of the late Brant and Glenna (nee Meeks) Switzer.
Chuck graduated from Hillsdale High School, Class of 1968, where he affectionately earned the nickname, Spud, for his love of potatoes. He furthered his education at Bowling Green State University where he studied engineering.
He retired after more than 30 years from AMG Industries in 2010 where he was a product engineer.
For the last 22 years, Chuck has shared his life with Deborah Scanlon, to whom they celebrated their anniversary on July 4th.
Most people have hobbies, then there was Chuck. Chuck’s hobbies and way of life blend together. To say that he was a “Renaissance Man” would be a gross understatement. He was a motorcycle mechanic, restored antique tractors, a gunmaker, a master marksman, woodworker, fisherman, hunter, brewer, winemaker, an amateur ham radio operator, arborist, beekeeper, and an avid vegetable and flower gardener to name a few. Chuck loved to cook, creating wonderful dishes from his canning of vegetables from his garden. In his spare time, Chuck restored turn of the century firearms that are now on display in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. He loved history and being a part of it, tracing his direct lineage back to the Rhine River and traveling out west, camping, and hunting elk. A man of many talents, who could restore anything and did.
He is survived by his loving companion, Deborah Scanlon of Ashland; two sons, Benjamin (Cheri) Switzer of Ashland and Andrew (Jessica) Switzer of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Dustin, Dylan and Bella Switzer, all of Tiffin, Zachary (Waner) Conrad of Fremont, California, Emily (Liam) Motter of Fredericktown and Erin Conrad of Ashland; one sister, Diane (Mike) Miller of Lexington; niece and nephew, Christoper Miller and Stephanie (Christopher) Shegitz, both of Columbus; great niece, Hannah Shegitz; and his former spouse, Mary Switzer of Ashland.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents.
An interment service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lucas. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home.
