LUCAS — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) invites families, history enthusiasts, and park visitors to Malabar Farm State Park for the annual Ohio Heritage Days celebration on Saturday, Sep. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This free event highlights Ohio’s cultural and agricultural traditions through hands-on activities, immersive demonstrations, and family-friendly entertainment — with free admission and free parking.
“Heritage Days is a wonderful opportunity to step back in time and experience the traditions, craftsmanship, and stories that helped shape Ohio,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz.
“Malabar Farm’s history is woven into our state’s agricultural roots, and this event brings that legacy to life in a way that is fun, educational, and memorable for families.”
Guests can enjoy traditional craft demonstrations like blacksmithing, broom making, quilting, and wool spinning, alongside modern handmade crafts.
Living history camps will bring to life eras from the 1700s through World War II, and visitors can explore archaeological displays, view antique tractors, enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides and pony rides.
Visitors can also take free self-guided tours of the historic Big House and the Ceely Rose House from 1 to 4 p.m. Food vendors, live music, and entertainment add to the lively festival atmosphere.
On Saturday evening, visitors are invited to a free barn dance in the Main Barn from 7 to 10 p.m., featuring music by the Back Porch Swing Band. All skill levels are welcome.
Guests can park at the Visitors’ Center and take a short walk down the lane to join the festivities. Water and soda will be available for purchase (cash only).
Nestled in the scenic Pleasant Valley of Richland County, Malabar Farm State Park reflects the vision of Pulitzer Prize–winning author and conservationist Louis Bromfield, who championed sustainable agriculture on this National Register of Historic Places landmark.
Today, visitors can tour the iconic Big House, meet farm animals, hike wooded trails, shop for Malabar Farm products, and take in sweeping valley views from Mt. Jeez — experiencing the same landscape Bromfield once used to inspire his work.
ODNR encourages visitors to come out and celebrate Ohio’s past while enjoying the beautiful setting of Malabar Farm State Park.
