VERMILLION TOWNSHIP — A road rage incident escalated from gestures to gunfire Thursday morning.

One driver was taken into custody shortly after a road rage incident on U.S. 30 led to gunfire in Ashland County, according to a press release from the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 8:50 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of U.S. 30 and State Route 60, the release said.

Two vehicles were traveling eastbound when the drivers exchanged gestures, according to the patrol. One driver then fired a gun, striking the other vehicle.

The vehicles continued in separate directions after the shooting and there was no further contact between the drivers, according to OSHP.

Troopers from the Ashland and Wooster posts later found the vehicle involved and stopped it, taking the driver into custody without incident and transporting them to the Ashland County Jail.

No injuries were reported.

Charges were pending as of Thursday afternoon, according to OSHP. Names of the individuals involved in the incident have not yet been released.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted the highway patrol with the investigation.

Troopers from the Ashland Post told Ashland Source said no additional information was ready to be released as of 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
