ASHLAND — The Ashland Symphony Orchestra will continue its 57th concert season Oct. 17 with “Symphony and Scream!”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Archer Auditorium at Ashland High School and is preceded by a preconcert talk at 6:50 p.m.

Grammy Award winning music director and conductor Michael Repper will lead the
musicians of the ASO in a program of classical, spooky music.

ASO is excited to present the world premiere of Mythics by Ashland High School
senior Simon Kuhn.

Kuhn describes Mythics as a five-movement piece depicting different beasts, creatures or deities from mythology. This programmatic work, inspired by the likes of Gustav Holst and Modest Mussorgsky, takes the listener on an epic journey.

When presented with the score, Repper responded, “Wow, … it’s quite impressive. I am very happy to support Simon and get this piece performed and the community (will) find it special.”

The concert will start with “Mars” from The Planets by Holst and features a film by NASA.

It continues with Danse macabre by Saint-Saëns, Peer Gynt, including the recognizable “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” and movements from Ravel’s orchestration of Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky and Symphony Fantastique by Hector Berlioz.

Audience members are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween costumes. All patrons may use the Snapstar photo booth to capture a souvenir photo.
